Founded in 1968, BWOPA understands that politics often affects the quality of life for most people. Therefore, BWOPA’s primary goal is to educate, train, and involve as many African-American women as possible in the political process. Today, BWOPA is a statewide 501c4 nonprofit advocacy and membership organization.
In 1999, BWOPA began a major reorganization effort to address the need to develop new African-American female leaders. BWOPA realized that potential leaders must be identified and provided with the skills and tools of sustainable leadership. The new structure gave rise to the establishment of the Training Institute for Leadership Enrichment (TILE).
